Marching towards an exciting climax, the 2017 World Series touches completely new grounds in October. The Lago Ranco region in the heart of Chile's Northern Patagonia is known not only for its breathtaking landscapes at the foot of the Andes, but also for the Riñinahue Waterfalls which were chosen to be the stunning backdrop of this season's grand finale.
The King Kahekili Trophy will be awarded to the 2017 champions in the men's as well as in the women's division in a red-hot season showdown surrounded by snow capped volcanoes. Who will become the successors of 6-time champion Gary Hunt and rookie-champion Rhiannan Iffland, the title defenders?
The Riñinahue Waterfalls are set within Parque Futangue, a forest conservation project of striking scenic beauty, laden with virgin forests, waterfalls and mountains, as well as spectacular lava fields and hot springs, boasting an extensive network of more than 100 km of trails.
The regional capital city, Valdivia, is located 100 km from the competition venue. This area of Chile was devastated in 1960 by the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in world history. It is referred to as the 'Great Chilean Earthquake' and ravaged the city of Valdivia. At a magnitude of 9.5 on the Richter scale, it destroyed almost everything in its path, caused landslide damming and left particular features in its geography, bestowing precious rivers and lakes.
